Tennessee Valley Author Event: Spotlight, Interview and Giveaway: Melanie Codina

With the Tennessee Valley Author Event looming only days away, I'm spotlighting some of the authors from the event! For those of you who can come to the event this is a great way to get to know a little bit about each of the attending authors ... and for those of you too far away to come, this is a chance to discover new authors and new books that just might be right up your alley! And so, without further ado:

Brandi Kennedy: Melanie Codina, welcome to my blog!

Melanie Codina: Thanks for taking the time to chat with me.

Brandi Kennedy: Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

Melanie Codina: Well, I'm not one who enjoys talking about myself. Pretty sure there are plenty of women who feel the same way. But in a nutshell, I'm married to my high school sweetheart and I have four kids. We live in Southern California so I enjoy wearing flip-flops all year round. Soccer is my favorite sport because the lives in our house revolve around it. And though I am a nurse by trade, I have given that up recently to be a stay at home mom for a little while.

Brandi Kennedy: Sounds like a fun change of pace. And will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more of a seasoned pro at this point?

Melanie Codina: TNVAE is not my first signing, but it is one of the first ones I signed up for. I'm very excited to attend it not just because of the line up of authors that I will definitely be fan-girling over, but because I have some close fans and friends that will be making the trip to attend too.

Even though TNVAE will not be my first signing, I'm still new at this. That being said, nerves are certainly on edge when I think about attending these events. The fear that nobody will come to your table is almost suffocating at times. Then when someone does, you think, "Oh thank God, someone likes me." And the nerves calm down a bit.

Brandi Kennedy: That has been a really common answer as I've been doing these interviews. It seems even the pros get at least a little nervous. So tell me, how many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Melanie Codina: Five.

Brandi Kennedy: That's a good number. And will you be bringing all of your titles to the event?

Melanie Codina: Yes.

Brandi Kennedy: I'm looking forward to seeing them. In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?

Melanie Codina: Any of my books are available at any time through my website. If there isn't a link for a specific book there, a fan can always message me on Facebook or directly through my website to request it. I will do whatever I can to accommodate.

Brandi Kennedy: That's great! What other forms of social media can readers use to follow you and your writing?

Melanie Codina: I'm also on Twitter and Instagram (MelanieCodina).

Brandi Kennedy: Well, I'm really looking forward to meeting you at the Tennessee Valley Author Event, Melanie. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions today.

Melanie Codina: Thanks so much for having me. It'll be a busy year full of signings and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone along the way. Tennessee is such a beautiful state, I can't wait to get back there to take in the scenery. I'm thrilled to be included in the stellar line up of authors and will have to make sure I bring my composure with me. It'll be tough to stay in my seat when I want to meet everyone.

Alright, readers, there you have it!

Tennessee Valley Author Event: Spotlight, Interview and Giveaway: Harper Sloan

With the Tennessee Valley Author Event looming only days away, I'm spotlighting some of the authors from the event! For those of you who can come to the event this is a great way to get to know a little bit about each of the attending authors ... and for those of you too far away to come, this is a chance to discover new authors and new books that just might be right up your alley! And so, without further ado:

Brandi Kennedy: Harper Sloan, welcome to my blog!

Harper Sloan: Happy to be here!! <3

Brandi Kennedy: Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

Harper Sloan: I'm obsessed with reading & just about everything that comes with it. (Especially if there's a demanding alpha involved.) If I'm not writing, I'm reading. Other than that, my time is consumed with my three diva daughters. ;-)

Brandi Kennedy: I have two daughters myself, and they are a busy couple of little people! I can only imagine the added fun (and the added challenge) of having three. But will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more of a seasoned pro at this point?

Harper Sloan: It won't be my first signing. I get nervous, but the thrill of meeting new authors and readers is so exciting!

Brandi Kennedy: And how many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Harper Sloan: Five, maybe six.

Brandi Kennedy: That's great! And will you be bringing all of your titles to the event?

Harper Sloan: Yes.

Brandi Kennedy: I'll look forward to seeing them! In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?

Harper Sloan: Yes!! Just send an email to HarperSloanBooks@gmail.com and we can get you set up!

Brandi Kennedy: Simple enough. What other forms of social media can readers use to follow you and your writing?

Harper Sloan: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (@harper_sloan), Pinterest, and Goodreads.

Brandi Kennedy: Well, I'm really looking forward to meeting you at the Tennessee Valley Author Event, Harper. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions today.

Tennessee Valley Author Event: Spotlight, Interview and Giveaway: Janae Mitchell

Brandi Kennedy: Janae Mitchell, welcome to my blog!

Janae Mitchell: Thank you for taking the time to chat with me.

Brandi Kennedy: Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

Janae Mitchell: I was born and raised in East Tennessee, which most people realize as soon as I open my mouth. If this interview was on TV, they would probably stick subtitles under me. I went on a trip to NYC one time and ended up having to spell a lot of things. But I love Tennessee and couldn't imagine living anywhere else; it's beautiful.

After doing hair for almost fifteen years, I finally decided to pursue a long time dream of mine, and that was to write. I never through that my first book would ever get published, especially not as quickly as it did. I'm still in awe when I open my book and see my words in print. But the best part is when people tell me how much they love it. That's the reason why I write, so no matter how many books I sell, my goal has been accomplished.

Brandi Kennedy: Well, don't worry, you won't be the only one with subtitles! I wasn't born in Tennessee, but I've been here for 15 years, and I love it! I have often said that although I am not "from" here, Tennessee is now my home.  But tell me, will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more of a seasoned pro at this point?

Janae Mitchell: Tnvae will be my third signing event and I'm guessing I'll be just as nervous for it as I was my first. I don't ever see myself NOT being nervous. But once it starts and people show up - yay! - I'm fine. I love talking to everybody and I'm humbled that they're even there.

If I had a bit of advice for an author's first signing event, it would be to make sure they ask how to spell everyone's name, even if it's a common one that you think you know how to spell. Also, use a colored pen so that your signature stands out. My go-to colors are purple and blue, which match my hair and my book cover for 'For Always.' It's also good to have some book swag, such as signed bookmarks, which I didn't realize that people loved so much. I always have signed bookmarks on hand to give away.

Brandi Kennedy: Good tips, especially the one about making sure to ask how to spell peoples' names. How many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Janae Mitchell: I will have two - my debut novel, 'For Always,' which is book one in the series, and book two, which is called 'For Now.'

Brandi Kennedy: I'm excited to read them both! And will you be bringing all of your titles to the event?

Janae Mitchell: Yes.

Brandi Kennedy: Awesome! In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?

Janae Mitchell: As of right now, I'm still able to provide signed copies to readers. All they have to do is go to the 'shop' page of my website.

Brandi Kennedy: That's great! What other forms of social media can readers use to follow you and your writing?

Janae Mitchell: Facebook, Twitter, my blog, Wattpad, Instagram and Pinterest

Brandi Kennedy: Well, I'm really looking forward to meeting you at the Tennessee Valley Author Event, Janae. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions today.

Janae Mitchell: Thanks for having me! I look forward to meeting you, too.

Brandi Kennedy: Sarah Goodman, welcome to my blog!

Sarah Goodman: Thank you for letting me be a part of this.

Brandi Kennedy: Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

Sarah Goodman: Of course, I married my high school sweet heart, been married twelve years and we have three sons. I'm also a teacher by day and writer at night. In between I'm a chauffeur, cook, and baseball mom. Any free time to myself I like to read.

Brandi Kennedy: I see. And will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more of a seasoned pro at this point?

Sarah Goodman: TNVAE will be my third signing. So, I'm still new at this and I can't lie, it still scares the hell out of me! I'm sure it will get easier, the more I attend.

Brandi Kennedy: That's what I'm hoping; it's my first signing event, too. How many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Sarah Goodman: Three, possibly four.

Brandi Kennedy: Will you be bringing all of your titles to the event?

Sarah Goodman: Yes.

Brandi Kennedy: In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?

Tennessee Valley Author Event: Spotlight, Interview and Giveaway: Terry Maggert

With the Tennessee Valley Author Event looming only days away, I'm spotlighting some of the authors from the event! For those of you who can come to the event this is a great way to get to know a little bit about each of the attending authors ... and for those of you too far away to come, this is a chance to discover new authors and new books that just might be right up your alley! And so, without further ado:

Brandi Kennedy: Terry Maggert, welcome to my blog!

Terry Maggert: I'm thrilled to be here!

Brandi Kennedy: Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

Terry Maggert: Well, I'm a left-handed aficionado of pie. I hail from Florida (a salt-water beach kid), but live near Nashville now, and I had an extended stopover in Upstate New York. I teach college history and also get paid to professionally break things, or as I like to call it, a handyman. I used to own a restaurant, loved it, and I have a wonderful wife, one enormous son, and a considerable herd of various animals, species unknown.

Brandi Kennedy: We have a lot in common! I'm a Tennessee transplant; from central Florida. Will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more of a seasoned pro at this point?

Terry Maggert: This will be my third event. I find the whole aspect of looking behind the curtain at other authors to be invigorating and fun. I love that you can never predict who writes what, and I'm a lifelong book nerd. Who doesn't like talking about books?

Brandi Kennedy: I definitely do. Once I get going about a favorite book, it's hard to shut me up. So tell me, how many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Terry Maggert: Three titles.

Brandi Kennedy: And will you be bringing both of your titles to the event?

Terry Maggert: Yes!

Brandi Kennedy: I look forward to seeing them. In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?

Terry Maggert: Simply comtact me at TerryMaggertBooks@gmail.com. I'm happy to accommodate every reader!

Brandi Kennedy: And what other forms of social media can readers use to follow you and your writing?

Terry Maggert: Twitter, my blog, and Facebook.

Brandi Kennedy: Your books are available in audio format on audible and iTunes as well. What does that format add to your story?

Terry Maggert: It does. I got lucky for a first time author. My actress, Rebecca Cook, can handle virtually any accent with ease, and there are many in my books. She brought my characters to life in ways that went beyond the page, and I was chilled to hear her interpretation of a couple of voices that are - let's just say not human, and not very pleasant. I drive a lot, and run, so audiobooks are a way for me to take my friends (books) with me.

Brandi Kennedy: That's fascinating! I'm not usually an audiobook fan, but I just may have to check yours out after all. I have to say, I'm really looking forward to meeting you at the Tennessee Valley Author Event, Terry. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions today.

Terry Maggert: It was a pleasure - you love books, I love books, this was a match made in the library! I'll see you at the next event, and cheers.

Alright, readers, there you have it! Terry Maggert!

Tennessee Valley Author Event: Spotlight, Interview and Giveaway: Andrea Smith

With the Tennessee Valley Author Event looming only days away, I'm spotlighting some of the authors from the event! For those of you who can come to the event this is a great way to get to know a little bit about each of the attending authors ... and for those of you too far away to come, this is a chance to discover new authors and new books that just might be right up your alley! And so, without further ado:

Brandi Kennedy: Andrea Smith, welcome to my blog!

Andrea Smith: Hey, it's great to be here!

Brandi Kennedy: Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

Andrea Smith: Well, let's see - I'm from Southern Ohio. I have two grown sons and four grandchildren. I started my writing career about twenty-five years later than I would've liked to, but I truly love what I do better than what I did before!!

Brandi Kennedy: And will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more of a seasoned pro at this point?

Andrea Smith: This is actually my fourth - or maybe fifth signing. I love doing these even though I'm not what you would call "seasoned" at it. The best part is meeting readers that really love what you've written. I also love meeting authors that I admire and find myself doing a bit of "fan-girling" myself. I guess the biggest thing that I've learned in attending these is you can always expect the unexpected which is what makes it so much fun!

Brandi Kennedy: How many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Andrea Smith: Possibly ten.

Brandi Kennedy: Wow, that's a lot! Will you be bringing all of your titles to the event?

Andrea Smith: No. It's simply a matter of logistics and ergonomics! Some of my early books, specifically the Baby Lite series are rather lengthy, i.e., heavy. I always bring order forms if readers would like signed copies mailed to them.

Brandi Kennedy: That's definitely understandable. In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?

Andrea Smith: Certainly! My facebook author page has a posting on the timeline with a Google form for just that purpose.

Brandi Kennedy: That's great! What other forms of social media can readers use to follow you and your writing?

Andrea Smith: Goodreads, and Amazon of course.

Brandi Kennedy: Well, I'm really looking forward to meeting you at the Tennessee Valley Author Event, Andrea. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions today.

Andrea Smith: Thanks so much for taking the time for this spotlight interview! I am so excited for this event, and look forward to meeting you in person!

Tennessee Valley Author Event: Spotlight, Interview and Giveaway: Leanne Tyler

With the Tennessee Valley Author Event looming only days away, I'm spotlighting some of the authors from the event! For those of you who can come to the event this is a great way to get to know a little bit about each of the attending authors ... and for those of you too far away to come, this is a chance to discover new authors and new books that just might be right up your alley! And so, without further ado:

Brandi Kennedy: Leanne Tyler, welcome to my blog!

Leanne Tyler: Thanks Brandi for having me in your author spotlight.

Brandi Kennedy: No problem. Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

Leanne Tyler: I'm an award-winning author that lives in Knoxville, Tennessee. I write Sweet and somewhat Sensual Southern romances, whether historical or contemporary. My debut release Victory's Gate was the 2007 American Rose winner of the Through the Garden Gate contest and was released electronically by The Wild Rose Press in December 2007 and in a print anthology December 2009.

My next releases didn't come out until 2011, but that didn't mean I wasn't still writing. I wrote a contemporary novella for the Last Rose of Summer line for their Class of '85 Reunion series. It's Always Been You was released in August 2011. And my first full-length historical novel Season of Love (November 2011) was a time-travel set in 1850 Charleston, South Carolina.

To date, 2012 has been my biggest year of releases so far. I had four. A short story, A Country Kitchen Christmas (February 2012 from "Books to Go Now") is a light inspirational romance. In may and August 2012 the first two books of The Good Luck Series were released from Amazon: The Good Luck Charm and The Good Luck Spell. And finally in November 2012, Ava, a novella in the Love Letters Series, was released.

In January 2013, Because of Rebecca (ebook Amazon Select) was released and it became available in print and ebook through all other venues May 17, 2013. Also, the final book in The Good Luck Series was released at the end of April 2013.

Brandi Kennedy: Well, you've been very busy indeed! Will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more of a seasoned pro at this point?

Leanne Tyler: No, I've done Romfest 2012, Romfest 2013, Romfest 2014, and the RWA 2013 Indie Author signing. I also participated in local signings in Knoxville in 2012 through Panera.

Brandi Kennedy: That's quite a few then! How many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Leanne Tyler: Five.

Brandi Kennedy: And will you be bringing all of your titles to the event?

Leanne Tyler: I'll have all titles that are available in print available and maybe an option to order the ebook only ones while at the event, or at least information available at the table so readers can purchase later if they like.

Brandi Kennedy: Sounds like a good plan. In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?

Leanne Tyler: The contact page on my website.

Brandi Kennedy: That's great! What other forms of social media can readers use to follow you and your writing?

Leanne Tyler: Facebook, Twitter, and of course, my website.

Brandi Kennedy: Well, I'm really looking forward to meeting you, Leanne. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions today.

Leanne Tyler: Thanks again Brandi for having me. I look forward to meeting all the readers at the Tennessee Valley Author Event in July.

Alright, readers, there you have it! Leanne Tyler!

Brandi Kennedy: Lena Nicole, welcome to my blog!

Lena Nicole: Thank you for having us. We appreciate you taking the time to chat with us.

Brandi Kennedy: Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourselves?

Lena Nicole: Our names are Jaime Nicole and Rachael Lena and we write under the name Lena Nicole. We are best friends who write books together. We are both stay moms and our husbands are in the Army. Our bio says:

"Jaime Nicole Whitley is an Army wife and stay at home mom to her wonderful son Aiden and daughter Peyton who has a passion for music, reading, NASCAR and football season. She grew up in New Jersey and lived in Las Vegas for a couple years working as a medical assistant before meeting her husband. While following his career, she ended up in North Carolina. Jaime has one rambunctious son, another on the way, as well as a furbaby who is a mixed lab. When she met Lena, she was so excited to share the same passion for books with her and jumped at the chance to work with her to write her own novel.

Rachael Lena Duncan is an Army wife to her amazing husband, Steven, and mother to their beautiful daughters, Natalie and Zoe. She grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and went off to graduate from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in political science. She once had dreams of being in politics and working behind the scenes as a political advisor. After working on Capitol Hill for a short time, she realized that wasn't for her. She always enjoyed writing and wanted to find a way to use that while moving from state to state with her husband's career. Fortunately, she met Nicole and was able to embark on this amazing journey with her."

Brandi Kennedy: That's really cool, how you ladies are able to write together like that! So, will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more seasoned pro's at this point?

Jaime Nicole: For me, this will be my second signing. And although I made it through my first one, I'm still a little nervous about there. I'm not quite sure what to expect with such a big venue, but I'm excited about it and can't wait to meet everyone attending.

Rachael Lena: For me, this will be my first signing. I'm both nervous and excited for this event. This is going to be a huge event and I'm excited to be a part of it. I'm excited to meet our readers who play a huge part in what we do.

Brandi Kennedy: How many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Lena Nicole: Two.

Brandi Kennedy: That's great! And will you be bringing both of your titles to the event?

Lena Nicole: Yes.

Brandi Kennedy: In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?

With the Tennessee Valley Author Event looming only days away, I'm spotlighting some of the authors from the event! For those of you who can come to the event this is a great way to get to know a little bit about each of the attending authors ... and for those of you too far away to come, this is a chance to discover new authors and new books that just might be right up your alley! And so, without further ado:

Brandi Kennedy: Juli Alexander, welcome to my blog!

Juli Alexander: Thanks for having me!

Brandi Kennedy: Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

Juli Alexander: I live in East Tennessee, in a house overrun by dogs and teenagers. Writing is my dream job, but I also have a day job. I write two different series, Investigating the Hottie, about a teen spy, and Stirring Up Trouble about a teen witch.

Brandi Kennedy: My daughter might like to read your spy series. Will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more of a seasoned pro at this point?

Juli Alexander: This won't be my first signing event, but I am very excited about it. I love meeting readers, bloggers, and other authors. I'll have a chance to go a little fan girl over other authors.

Brandi Kennedy: I'm looking forward to that, too. How many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Juli Alexander: Nine.

Brandi Kennedy: Wow! And will you be bringing all of your titles to the event?

Juli Alexander: No. Two of my works, a short story and a novella, are only available in electronic form. However, I should have a good variety of the seven print books, especially the books in the newly finished Stirring Up Trouble series, and the currently available books in the Investigating the Hottie series.

Brandi Kennedy: That's quite a lot! In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?

Juli Alexander: I'm pretty easy to find through messaging on Goodreads, Facebook or Twitter. I try to pay attention and reply as soon as I can.

Brandi Kennedy: That's great! I'm really looking forward to meeting you at the Tennessee Valley Author Event, Juli. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions today.

Tennessee Valley Author Event: Spotlight, Interview and Giveaway: Andrea Heltsley

Brandi Kennedy: Andrea Heltsley, welcome to my blog!

Andrea Heltsley: Thanks for hosting me, it's great to be here.

Brandi Kennedy: Why don't you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

Andrea Heltsley: I'm a scientist turned writer that loves cooking up new ideas. Once I started writing, I couldn't stop. I live in Tennessee with my husband and two Italian Greyhounds. When I'm not writing, you can find me watching the Vampire Diaries, listening to Shakira or reading paranormal romances.

I read as much as I write! I read 291 books last year and published five books. I love the art of reading and writing literature and am passionate about writing reviews that will be good feedback for the authors.

Brandi Kennedy: Well, I think any author can appreciate that. Will TNVAE be your first signing event, or are you more of a seasoned pro at this point?

Andrea Heltsley: I've signed at UtopYA Con 2013, Indie BookFest 2013 and Houston Book Rave 2013. I've learned to be outgoing, have swag and to sell your books at a reasonable price. Also, get to know your peers.

Brandi Kennedy: That was my whole idea behind doing this interview series - it's a great way to break the ice with the authors attending the event. So tell me, how many titles do you expect to have available by the time of the event?

Andrea Heltsley: Seven.

Brandi Kennedy: That's a lot to carry! Will you be bringing all of your titles to the event?

Andrea Heltsley: Yes - all of them will be available.

Brandi Kennedy: That's great! In the meantime, is there a way for fans to contact you, if they wish to order signed copies of books you won't be bringing with you? Or if they won't be able to attend the event but would like to order books anyway?
