Wellness Wednesday

I did it. I posted every single day last month, except for Sundays. I promoted every single post, and last month this blog did better than in the last four months combined.

But I'm exhausted because I've also had personal life things going on, some of which took over recently and stopped me from enjoying the mental health "off" day I had planned to take this past Monday.

So I'm taking it today instead. I'm taking time for me, to rest and recharge, to catch up on sleep and read a book, to watch TV and shave my legs and put some lotion on. To listen to music, or to silence. To pet my dog.

Today? It's wellness Wednesday.

Questions for the Comments Section:

  • How do you recharge when you're feeling run down or burnt out?
  • What's your favorite quick self-care ritual?
  • What's your favorite long one?

  1. Congratulations on your achievements from all of your hard work! There's definitely a balance when it comes to blogging and personal life. I think once you find it, it makes everything that much easier.
I personally haven't found it yet, I either spend too much time on the blog or too much time distracted on Facebook. I need to get it together! Your post has inspired me to do just that, especially when you said you did better than the last four months combined (Way to go!!)

    1. I haven't found my balance just yet either. I seem to alternate between too much work and not enough work. I feel guilty when I'm not working, but just as guilty when I am, and I think finding a balance between the two will help me SO MUCH.

I'll be curious to see what happens in my life once I get the pendulum to stop swinging.

    1. Right there with ya. I love so many different kinds that I find it perfectly easy and relaxing to browse around for just the right book. And once I find the right book for the moment? Peace.

      And of course, Happy Reading.

  6. I'm certain that in the end this will all pay off. You know what they say, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy... enjoy your day of rest. I'm sure it is beyond well deserved.

  8. I go through months were I am on and blogging more regularly and it can be tiring. Having to keep up with promoting it and getting it out there to be read can be an all day thing.
I usually just take a little break when I am feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes its just a few minutes and other times it can be days that I walk away from stuff.

    1. Yeah that's the hardest part for me, too. If I had a PR team to do all the promo work, I'd happily write all day every day. But keeping up the promotional aspect is what I find most draining, actually.

  11. Wow! I seriously can't imagine posting every single day!! That's awesome. I am working my way up, so hopefully I can get there! Recharging - that's what I'm in need of right now, so I'm looking forward to a weekend with my honey! Just the two of us!

    1. I definitely don't think I do daily blogging on a long-term basis. At least, not right now. Maybe when I have a slew of readers who are doing the sharing and promoting for me, then I could do it - but right now I'm pretty much a one-woman show, and I consider each and every hard-won reader a blessing. Being torn between writing and promoting is definitely why I needed the break.

  12. It can be so hard to remember to get those wellness days in! I have always had a bad habit of forgetting to take time off for myself. This seems especially so when things are going well and I'm being productive. Congrats on things going so well for you! I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your day! :)

    1. Me too - but too many "good" working days always leads to a mental crash for me. I have to get better about balancing the two.

    1. It was a challenge, for sure - but I'm glad I did it. I may even attempt it again!

I recharge by reading too! What's your favorite book genre?

  14. Wow, congratulations, that is amazing! I admire all that hard work and the dedication and commitment it took! Onwards and upwards, as they say!
I work out almost everyday and I read everyday, so those are my favourite ways of recharging and me time.

    1. My favorite thing is when I can combine something I know I should be doing (like working out, which is good for me but not always something I WANT to do) with something I truly love) like reading. Lately I've been really enjoying audiobooks - I listen to them when I go out walking.

  15. Congratulations !! How amazing that is. I give you a lot of credit. That was a big commitment. Rest and relax for the next day !!

  18. Hard works does pay off!

What do I do when I'm down and out? Sleep. Wake up the next day and take charge. Take charge of my actions and my brain.

    1. I can definitely agree with the sleeping part! I sometimes struggle to have really restful sleep, so banking some extra hours really helps me come back to life when I'm worn down.

  19. Well done! We committed to posting twice a week last May and it has been paying off. :) I recharge by going on a holiday. But since we write about travel I tend to get more burned out when we return home with a ton more of content.. so it can have a negative effect sometimes. Or I go to work at a office - It prevents me for working too hard on my own stuff.

    1. Congrats on the payoff you've seen on your blog! I wonder if, being a travel blogger, do you sometimes feel totally worn out by traveling? Like it's become a job thing, so you have to take a break from vacations?

  20. Congratulations for posting everyday! It's a tough task but you were able to do well! That's really awesome. You definitely deserve some down time as well.

  21. When I am run down or burnt out I have something indulgent to eat, put some comfy clothes on and just chill watching something on telly where I don't need to engage my brain. Giving myself and my brain a break is what charges my batteries.

    1. Thanks! I can relate to the reading and blogging (of course), but I can't seem to get sewing quite right. I'd love to learn to hand-sew, but I've never been able to sew anything that didn't fall apart within two days.

  29. I write down my anxieties, anger and sadness - sometimes it ends up in my blog, sometimes just in my personal drafts but I feel like once I get the emotions out of me in writing I can move on and I feel rejuvenated :-)
