Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Songs To Remind You Of Your Own Power
Last month I shared my YouTube playlist of favorite Christmas songs, so I thought today it would be fun to share with you a list of my all-time favorite songs. In keeping with yesterday's post about self-love and being an all-powerful goddess of badassery, this playlist is a list of songs that I listen to when I need an emotional pick-me-up, when I'm feeling down about myself or life in general, and/or when I'm writing my book heroines. These songs touch the weakest places in my soul, they take all the little crumbled bits of my heart and pile them up, they glue over the cracks in my spirit. They make me believe, even if for just a moment, the hope is alive and that everything I ever wanted to be is still just around the corner.
They make me believe, even if in the most cynical of ways, that there is a light at the end of my tunnel - and that maybe, just maybe, it isn't a train.
I call them my Power Songs; I probably listen to this playlist several times a week - sometimes, several times a day - and they never fail to pull me out of the pit and back into the sunshine. So, without further ado:
10 Songs To Remind You of Your Own Power
1.) Warrior, by Demi Lovato
2.) Courage, by Orianthi
3.) Fight Song, by Rachel Platten
4.) Soar, by Christina Aguilera
5.) Video, by India Arie
6.) Part of Me, by Katy Perry
7.) Woman Up, by Meghan Trainor
8.) Not Afraid, by Eminem
9.) While I'm Waiting, by John Waller
10.) Try, by Colbie Caillat
I challenge you to give a listen to these songs, and see if they don't set your mood off for a much better, much more empowered day. And if you do listen, or you already knew these songs, leave me a comment below to tell me which one was your favorite!
I thought the songs were an invovative idea. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jim! These really are songs that I listen to all the time for personal empowerment, and Warrior has actually inspired several posts on this blog. It's currently my #1 favorite song and has been for a little while now - it's even the inspiration for this year's word in my post from yesterday.
DeleteThat is an excellent playlist! Always good to have something that helps you feel fierce and like a warrior, cuz that is what we are! ;)
ReplyDeleteExactly! These songs always remind me of how strong I am.
DeleteThat's great that you can find music that inspires you. These are positive songs and I can understand why they are so popular.
ReplyDeleteSadly, some of them aren't really so popular - at least, not in the sense that they're top 40 hits or anything like that. Some of them are, of course, but mostly they're just songs I've heard over the years that stuck with me.
DeleteSad thing is I never heard any of them...but the good thing is now I got a new playlist of these songs yayyy!! thanx for sharing..Gonna share this on my FB wall :)
ReplyDeleteNo problem, and thanks so much for sharing! I'm glad you liked the post!
DeleteI love your selection... I love Demi but the Fight Song is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a powerful song, too - a fight song isn't just a casual picnic-in-the-backyard kind of tune!
DeleteThese are all fantastic songs! We really need these right now!
ReplyDeleteFor sure! I listen to these often, especially Warrior. It's my favorite.
DeleteBeautiful post and beautiful pictures. You have given some great songs. Saving this post for a time when I need a little "lift-me-up"
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Deletethose are some awesome songs. demi lavoto's confident could be a good one as well. i love all these.
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely a good one too. I have found that I can relate to a lot of her music - I love how deep the content goes. I loved Stone Cold too.
DeleteExcellent playlist! I love some of the songs
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteGreat list of songs of encouragement. I think a lot of the songs you head today aren't as uplifting, so thank you for offering this compilation.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. My daughter and I were just talking this morning on the way to school about how music these days doesn't seem to have an awful lot to say. We both acknowledge that there IS good music out there if you're looking - but also both agreed that the farther back you go in musical history, the more meaning you tend to find.
DeleteI have never heard the majority of the songs on this list before, so I am going to give them a listen & tuck them away in case I need some inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBased on what I've read on your blog, I'd say I'm sure you'll find at least one or two on this list that you can love. *wink*
DeleteExcellent playlist. Katy Perry's Roar redone by Alex Boye is one of my favorites that would mesh well with your list
ReplyDeleteI love Roar! Haven't heard the Alex Boye version though - I'll have to look that up.
DeleteI always use music to lift my mood or get me motivated, and Katy Perry is the bomb! Great play list... xoxo Robin
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love music for those reasons, too - as well as fighting off depression, dealing with anxiety, releasing anger in a healthy way, staving off boredom, self-expression when I can't find words of my own ... music magic, and I truly believe that.
DeleteI really like the first song! I love songs that encourage and build people up. Music speaks volumes. I love how it touches people.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Music has such power in it, and I think sometimes we get so caught up in trends and the top 40 hits, we forget to harness what music really meant to do.
DeleteI listened to most of these songs while I was reading this post. I love them. They really do make you feel inspired and encouraged!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm glad they worked for you, too! These are truly my favorites, so I thought it would be fun to share them here.
DeleteThis is going to show you how little I know about who the artists are, but I know a lot of these songs, just not who sung them. I really love Katy Perry's song the best, her songs are a family favorite!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I don't know the artists either, or I'll confuse one artist for another. But there are some that I know just by the voice, too.
DeleteShame on me... I only knew Katy Perry & Eminem but you should have seen my 4 years old boy moving his body on the Woman up song. My power song is Empire state of mind from Alicia Keys. I feel I can achieve EVERYTHING with this song especially since I own my business.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I'll have to look up the Alicia Keys song. The idea of your son getting down to Meghan Trainor made me laugh out loud - thanks for that!
DeleteI really love your playlist, if you don't mind I'm going to have to borrow some from you. Some of the songs, and singers I didn't even know so I feel real old, lol. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely borrow! They're shared here so that others can hopefully benefit from them the way I have. And don't feel old - I have lots of other "older" favorites as well, just not on this particular list. Although I will say this - both Eminem and Christina Aguilera have been hit artists since the mid-late 90s. I guess it just depends on your music style, though. I couldn't tell you who's who in the alternative/rock genre even if I tried.
DeleteGreat songs you picked. They so relate to power. Excellent article.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteAren't songs empowering! I love that these are all about bringing your confidence up. We can do anything we set our mind to, we just have to make sure that we don't stop ourselves from doing so.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I need help with that (don't we all?), and as a single mom, I often find myself in need of some positive feedback. Not to say my kids are negative or anything, but they're kids, so they give me the usual every-dinner-sucks, no-I-won't-clean-up-yet, WHY-did-you-buy-me-this-toy-in-blue-I-wanted-RED sort of treatment from time to time. And working at home often means they're the most people exposure I get. Music helps me remind myself that confidence and worth doesn't come from the people around me - especially when the people are kids who haven't yet mastered the art of caring for others.
DeleteYES! Fight Song, Eminem ,and Demi are always good ones to get me going, no matter what! Loved this idea and now I want to go listen to them all haha
ReplyDeleteHave at it! I promise you'll have a rocking afternoon after jamming to these songs!
DeleteGreat picks, these! There's nothing like the power of music to lift us when we need it.
ReplyDelete100% agreed!
DeleteWhat a lovely thing to share! I have not heard of all of these songs, so I'm going to listen to them now :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome - I hope you love them as much as I do!
DeleteI love the idea of a power song! I'm going to have to get a playlist together ;)
ReplyDeleteYou go, girl!
DeleteI really love the Part of me by Katy Perry it was one of my favorite songs 6 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI feel like some songs have messages that are timeless, and in this place of my life, I'm dealing with things that relate SO CLOSELY to the content of that song. Reclaiming my own power is a journey - I'm glad I have good music to listen to along the way.
DeleteWarrior is one of my favorites right now! I really like to listen to it while I run. It reminds me that I have so much power and i can channel that power into my workout! Great post.

Yes!! For me, it touches really personally on things that I've been through in my life, so it's super meaningful. The first time I heard it, I totally burst into tears.
DeleteWhat a wonderful idea for a playlist. I always make feel good ones. But I like the idea of an empowering list.
ReplyDeleteSome days, you just need to be empowered, ya know?
DeleteThese are such great songs! Most of them I've heard for the first time today but I like them.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked them!
DeleteThat's the perfect playlist for a workout!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree! Nothing empowers fitness like fueling your inner badass.
DeleteHaha so funny, there are a few songs on this lists that I played over and over again when I felt some kinda way.
ReplyDeleteThat's when I play them the most!
Deleteyou should listen to IN THIS MOMENT. they have some pretty good woman power songs :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'll look them up!
